Born in Brazil, studied in the USA and Europe, rowing athlete Kristie Stofler fits perfectly into the image of the international Monaco. When she’s not on the Côte d’Azur, she travels the world to visit friends and family.
“Of all my residences, I like it best here,” beams the half-Brazilian, half-Austrian cheerfulness when she talks about her discovery of the small principality by the sea six years ago. “I immediately fell in love with the elegance and glow of the inhabitants.”
Currently, the former professional triathlete trains a lot in Italy under the supervision of her friend and coach Antonella Corazza, who was Italy’s fastest single rower in 1984. The switch to rowing was particularly easy for her thanks to her well-trained cycling muscles. “My goal now is to become the best female rower in the world.” And the ambitious jetsetter practices every day to achieve this.
My “Place to Be” in Monaco: Quai des Artistes
When Kristie was introduced to the Monaco Triathlon Team at the harbour in 2017, she also came to know and love the Quai des Artistes. The sophisticated seafood restaurant with outdoor bar and terrace is a mix of art deco, baroque and student dormitory – cosy and chic at the same time for spending quality time with both close friends and business partners.
“I love oysters, because they have lots of zinc, which is very good for the immune system,” knows the professional athlete, who takes good care of her diet and also eats a gluten- and lactose-free diet. In addition, she does not drink alcohol, which also benefits her athletic condition. To drink, she therefore recommends one of the “delicious alcohol-free cocktails by bar chef Matthieu.”
Incidentally, the Bar des Quai des Artistes hosts an after-work event every Thursday, so it’s especially worth visiting on that day.
